Diabetic patients should consult a doctor before Ramadan, about the possibility of performing 
the obligation of fasting or not.

You should not eat large amounts of food during breakfast, and it is better to divide it into several small meals between breakfast and suhoor, in order to avoid sudden changes in blood sugar.


You should avoid eating simple or quickly absorbed sugars (starches, sweets, some very sweet fruits, white sugar, and others).

Be sure to eat more vegetables containing fiber (cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce, carrots and spinach), because they help strengthen the body for the long hours of fasting.


Diabetes treatment in Ramadan


Be sure to drink enough water (about 2 liters every day). Focus should be on the elderly, as dehydration symptoms appear on them more quickly than in other age groups.


Ensuring that you do physical activity continuously, walking is one of the most desirable sports.

Ensure daily monitoring of blood sugar, especially those who use insulin. Daily monitoring of sugar is very important in determining the appropriate insulin dose, to avoid low or high sugar.
